You should keep the following things in mind while picking your favourite breed. Make sure that it has a good temperament. It should be friendly and not shy or fearful. This is because it might not create much problem in the beginning but may raise issues later. Also it should have proper built. Find out about its health and some main issues like vaccination. Enquire if it suffers from any ailments. You should also know about its age.

After bringing your favourite breed to your home, you need to take care of two important factors which are their health and training. German shepherds generally suffer from hip problems and they tend to have weak bones. So it is really important to provide it food which is rich in calcium. If you feed one heavy meal to your pet after which it drinks plenty of water followed by vigorous exercise then it may lead to a situation called “bloat”. Thus this has to be avoided. The dog shouldn’t do any activity some time before and after the meal. They shed a lot of hair so it is unavoidable. In order to ensure that it is properly, it needs to be ensured that it should be properly taken off from a very young age. If you do not provide it proper training then it might cause destruction and havoc.

In order to train your dog, you need to ensure that your dog is physically fit. The first key to their training is in being consistent. If you use a particular command for some action then continue using the same command. Be patient while training and keep conversing. Always praise when it is required, even dogs understand this language. Even if your dog isn’t grasping what you are trying to teach, don’t hit it in any case. To avoid boredom, keep the sessions short. Give your dog some name and refer to it by the name during the entire training session by that. You can increase the length of the training session of your dog as it grows and as its ability to grasp increases.

There are also some disadvantages of owning a German shephard dog. At times it can become over protective and it doesn’t bond with strangers easily. It also needs considerable exercise since it has a lot of energy. They are also prone to a number of diseases like hip dysplasia, arthritis etc. Hence one has to take proper care of its health. They may chase other animals and can be really aggressive towards them. It might also be difficult to get them insurance. This is because these are black listed.
